Erok-El was the very first in the House of El. Before the foundation of the house, he was known as Erok, son of Tomnu, son of Rugad, son of Feln.

He was a handsome young man who both Jimmy Olsen and Supergirl thought looked exactly like Kal-El.

Erok was given the Potion of Strength, and he used his powers to bring civilization to Krypton, though Jimmy Olsen sees him as a "first class rat". In his military campaigns, Erok single-handedly attacked enemy forces with the strength of an Oliphant, and tossed boulders around in the air. Enemy soldiers thought that he was a god and bowed down to his rule.

To end his last campaign without bloodshed, Erok captured the daughter Milia of his enemy to force his surrender, enacting the rule of law. Cannibalism and human sacrifice were banned.

Erok and his former prisoner Milia were married in ancient Kryptonian ceremony, which was blessed by the Goddess Yuda. They were named Bethgar and Bythgar of Urrika. When they eventually had a child who they named Kal, they took the last name 'El' - as the stars have shone favorably upon him. Thus their son was known as Kal-El the first, or Star-Child. Erok-El now gave the city his name, and over time it becomes known as Erkol.

  • This version of Erok-El, including all history and corresponding appearances, was erased from existence following the collapse of the original Multiverse in the 1985–86 Crisis on Infinite Earths event and later restored following the rebirth of the infinite Multiverse during the Dark Crisis of 2022-2023. Even though other versions of the character may have appeared, this information does not apply to those versions.
  • Superman's name also means 'Star Child.'
